I'm going to keep this short, sweet and straight to the point. I didn't take a camera and also failed to take any photos on my phone, so for the benefit of Matt Newcombe who gets bored very quickly without pictures I'll get straight to it.
Today was the first qualifier of the British Lure Angling Championship at Exeter Canal. 38 anglers attended and 23 caught but only six could qualify for the final in October at Chew Valley.
It was an absolutely cracking day, a huge congratulation and thanks to Julian, Hannah and the marshals involved. Without you guys they day wouldn't have been what it was. There was a good mix of tactics used and a good variation in results.
Well done Adam Kirby on winning and well done to all the other qualifiers. I myself managed to finish 3rd, qualifying myself for he final at Chew. I am lucky enough to be fishing Chew end of April and it will interesting to see how different it fishes in the final in October.
Q2 at Kennet and Avon next week which should result in a lot of fish being caught. I will be going but safe in the knowledge I'm through, so I will be relaxing and supporting whoever I am paired with all the way through.
As for the title Ben Church was 14cm away from 6th place. One small perch would have done it. he's been kicking himself all evening and probably will for weeks unless he qualifies at the next event.
Gear of the day...
I had a Graphiteleader Bosco day today albeit at either ends of the scale.
I had one rod that casts 1-10g and with a fixed spool. The Nuovo Bosco GLNBS-642ML, this rod has been my go to perch and jack pike rod for a few months now. I am confident this rod has all the power you would need to stop a bigger pike if your were to hook one. Especially after John catching a monster salmon on one here.
The other rod casting 14-84g with a baitcaster the Nuovo Bosco GLNBC-72X. Now I am certainly no baitcaster expert as this is the first baitcaster rod I have used but it came highly recommended from a number of guys and I must say I'm pleased with it so far. Let's hope it continues to serve me well, especially at chew.
Lures of the day were Savage Gear spinner 8g and Bait Breath Needle Fry on a drop shot rig with a 5g Vike tungsten weight.
I managed to find you a few pictures after all Matt ;)
