Tuesday morning the postman was kind enough to drop me off a photo card from Lure Heaven. Time for me to get cracking and catch some species.
For those of you that don’t know John at Lure Heaven is holding a lure fishing species hunt competition with some awesome prizes up for grabs. The rules are nice and simple. In a nut shell it’s a shore fishing comp and you must use lures. All fish must be photographed with a measure and photo card in the shot. The competition is running from 01-09-12 to 01-12-12 so there is still plenty of time to get involved. If you are interested I would suggest checking this facebook page out and send John a message with your name and address in and he’ll send you a card and a rules sheet. Oh I nearly forgot to say IT’S FREE!
In the hope of catching a few species for the comp, last night I headed over to meet Frankie and co in Plymouth. There were plenty of fish about but not many of them were being caught. The fishing was hard and I was now hoping for at least one species, even if it was a 2inch Pollock. I switched lures every few cast and eventually started getting bites. It was now getting late and I was starting to think I may blank (something that hasn’t happened for a long time). All of a sudden bang, fish on, certainly not a monster but my first ever lure caught pout. That was then me done for the night and time to catch the ferry.
This evening I had a mark in mind and with these smaller tides it was perfect on my way home from work. I stopped off and worked a decoy 1.8g jig head and some Power Isome, I also tied a size 18 hook further up the line. First drop saw me land a tiny goldsinny and species number two. The fish just kept coming with species like pollock, black gobies and corkwing. I even managed a double hook up of corkwing, when I switched colours. I could have fished for hours but it was time to leave and with 50 plus fish landed I was one happy chappy. Now where are those scad hiding?!
