With the end of the salmon season rapidly approaching, this blog may be too little too late. I'm going to keep this short and pretty much straight to the point. After last weekends salmon hunt with Ben Church I had the chance to try out a new lure from Anglers Republic.
Lures from Anglers Republic are slowly filtering into the UK lure scene and I'm so glad they are. With detail and quality similar to that of Duo I think they are going to do well. The lure in questions hasn't quite got the attention grabbing name like the Patchinko, Sasuke or Zonk but I think Anglers Republic could be on to something, naming lures after ladies.
The Jointed Mildred as the name suggests is the jointed version of their Mildred. Weighing 9.5 grams and sinking, this lure is ideal for when the river is up and running. As you salmon fisherman are aware this is when the salmon are moving and you are more likely to catch one. A rise in river levels and increased flow also have some draw backs. A bit of colour in the river definitely has it's benefits and that whisky colour is what we all look for but sometimes the rivers resemble flowing chocolate with about quarter inch of visibility. That's when this lures action comes into play.
The action on this lure is simple awesome. Slow retrieve or just held in the flow this lure gives off a good vibration and just waggles it's tail. Turn your reel handle a little faster and this lure vibrates and rolls side to side, a little quicker and this lure darts, rolls and is sure to provoke a salmon into a take. When that water is coloured I like to slow my retrieve right down, this lure allows me to do that and still maintain a good action and level of vibration for the fish to hone in on.
A lot of jointed lures I have tried in the past have a nice action and look great in the water but when it comes to casting them they turn into a limp floppy lump of plastic that doesn't cast anything like their non jointed buddies. It simply isn't the case with this little beauty. This casts a dream and is simply the most accurate jointed lure I have cast, ever!
I have been using this lure on a Palms Egeria 5-16g teamed up with my Caldia 2508 loaded with Toray BAWO Superhard Polymide Plus Nylon in 15.7lb. This setup has been a dream to use and this nylon is fast becoming a favorite of mine for this style of fishing, I will never go back to flurocarbon again for the river.
