With near storm conditions and not a clean bit of water in sight, Autumn is well and truely here along with the pike and perch season. With some new waters on the table and completely blown out seas, I may well be spending most of my time inland hunting down the toothy and stripy critters that inhabit our fresh water. Time to sort my kit ready for the next few months.
With a quick rummage through my highly organised tackle store it was apparent that I was lacking in a few pike/perch lures. Not only that I was in the market for a new reel to match up with my medium weight rod. Quick trip down to Lure Heaven to stock up.
Reel and line...
With most fish, in both the sea and fresh water loving features, it's not surprising that most of the perch and pike I have caught have come from near bushes, reeds and over hanging trees. These Bait Breath Huskys are designed for just that. They all come as they appear top right and when rigged backwards will dive forwards under structure (shown in video below). Split the paddles and rig the other way and you have a frog like imitation that works well on both a straight retrieve and sink and draw.
Other lures designed to dive under features are the Quantum Joker. These are available in 5g and 10g and are pre-rigged on hooks. The large paddle on the back folds back on the retrieve and when the pressure is released this paddle propels the lure forward again making them perfect for sink and draw.
This lot in conjunction with the usual Gary Yamamoto Swin Senkos and Hula Swimmers, Bait Breath BeTanCo curly tails, Daiwa's D-fin, Duck-Fin Shad and the Savage Gear 4play in both the hard and soft version. These should be all the lures I need.
I tend to team these guys up with Vanfook 55B worm hooks but just lately The Vanfook 45B slim upper hooks have been available. These are designed for senko/worm type lures. They have a straighter shank and the hook point is set further back improving hook up rates.
