If my cabin fever wasn't bad enough at the moment, I now have that part time Cornishman posting pictures and videos to me from Japan! To be fare all it has done is make me focus on my fishing for the coming year. I am mad keen to get overseas and explore some new fishing ground and hopefully some new species. To be fare I am suffering with a full on case of the green eyed monster but in all honesty I am chuffed to bits that Matt has made the voyage to Japan and is now reaping the benefits. If you haven't seen any of Matt's pictures or write ups yet check out his blog here. I'm just looking forward to a chat over a pint and of course the prezzies Matt ;)
British Lure Angling Championship
I've heard various snipes and remarks made about this comp but I beg for people to see this championship for what it really is. I know there are no saltwater venues and it doesn't cover as much of the UK as some would hope but this is the comp in it's early days and only the first year. I for one will be taking this championship for what it is, a chance for me to catch up with some faces both old and new, have a few laughs and if i'm lucky enough catch a few fish and qualify for the televised final that would be a bonus.
If this year goes well and Julian can get his head round the logistical nightmare of sea fishing venues then next year should only see this championship grow and why shouldn't it. We have some pretty awesome anglers in the UK with a massive amount of enthusiasm. I don't expect the UK to reach the level of hype seen in the US but we could give it a good go couldn't we? I think this is a great step in promoting the sport and hopefully might help get some new faces involved.
Calm seas, light wind and clear water...I hope.
I am itching to smash some wrasse on the coast and hit the rivers for some chub but when that is going to be possible I just don't know. The rivers are shafted and may take months to recover at best. At least the coast should calm down a bit sooner. In the mean time I will continue to stock pile the lures and rearrange my kit until we have that break in the weather we all need.
