At these time of year normally I would be packing away the fresh water gear and hitting the coast for the bass and wrasse. Having said that this year I have been really getting stuck into my pike fishing and throwing bigger baits. I know it means fishing heavier and you do lose a bit from the fight but you certainly don't lose the satisfaction from landing these stunning fish. I've been enjoying working the margins with swimbaits and have started to see a more consistent results. When I got a message from Matt Newcombe to test some of his prototype handmade lures I jumped at the chance.
I was next to hook up and I could see what Matt was talking about the fight in them was awesome and great sport. After a short but spirited fight I soon landed a lovely 6lb (ish) pike on another of Matt's prototypes. This time in a blue and yellow combo.
To keep an eye on Matt's lure building check out his page Soul Craft on Facebook here. I'm looking forward to testing some more of Matt's creations in the not too distant future including his crawler frog top water bait.
